BEDMAKERS

BEDMAKERS MENHIR

Tribute to an Imaginary Folk Band

Bedmakers brings together four musicians with polymorphous and unique musical identities.

Anglophile saxophonist/clarinetist Robin Fincker joins the dots between French drummer Fabien Duscombs, the electroacoustic violinist Mathieu Werchowski and the Irish double bassist Dave Kane. With this richly coloured instrumentation, the quartet bursts into the twists and turns of Anglo-Saxon folk, with their “Tribute to an Imaginary Folk Band”.

The band searches, scratches and digs this fertile sound material matured by multiple decades of oral tradition, to extract its melodic essence and observe it through the eyes of improvisers without labels. An imaginary crossing of different musical essences which offers a repertoire with multiple itineraries; like this music which, although deeply linked to its roots, does not know any boundaries.

Here popular music, blues and free improvisation coexist. Both collector and re-inventor, the quartet shakes up the relationships between traditional and experimental music and reveals snippets of refrains in a flow of improvised jazz. Bedmakers is constantly expanding its repertoire into a reservoir that aims to be inexhaustible, a mixture of collections and original compositions. The group seeks to evoke the « letting go », trance-like, collective joy of a dance floor through a musical experience of great dynamic amplitude. The surf of noisy gestures, the incessant loops of the bow, the heady melodies of the saxophone and the multilayered sound of the rhythm section converge towards a common goal, vibratory and shared, of invisible dance and molecular shock.
